Church History

Psalm 16 says, “ The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage.” These words express feelings of being blessed by God and receiving much good.

I thought about these words as this church celebrates 150 years as a vital witness of the Christian gospel. Goad has been there in our attempts at faithful worship, study of Scripture, and prayer. God has blessed and nurtured us as we have shared communions and baptisms, fellowship meals, ball games, funerals and all the other events which mark the life of this congregation.

God has also been present with the generations worshipping and serving God in this congregation as we have sought to battle back from floods, tornadoes, war, and disagreements. Through it all, God has given us strength and guidance.

2004 is a year to celebrate the goodness of God.

Peace,
Rev. Sam E. McGregor, Jr.

The History of

Allison Creek Presbyterian Church

Allison Creek Church had a smooth beginning, but has had a rugged existence. It has been yoked with three different churches and was considered for closing at least twice. The Minutes of the Session state that it was first yoked with Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church. On December 5, 1868, they jointly issued a call to Rev. W.W. Carothers.  In 1941, Allison Creek was yoked with Bethel and Bethel Chapel with Dr. Tilden Sherer as pastor. From 1950 until 1959, it was joined with Northminster Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill.
